Keep Moving Forward (Noah and His Wife)

And Noah and his sons and his wife and his sons’ wives entered the ark to escape the waters of the flood.

Genesis 7:7

READ Genesis 7.

We don’t know her name, but her presence speaks volumes. Was she talked about or pitied because the whole town thought she was crazy? Over and over again, her husband kept preaching about things never seen before. Add to that a massive boat! And well, it’s the perfect conversation over dinner after church or a quick chat at the coffee station at work.

“Did you hear about Noah and his wife? Girl, I don’t know how she can stay with that man. She should have married Lemuel like we told her. We just have to keep praying for her.”

Maybe she voiced her concerns when he got home each night.

“Noah, there’s a draft in one of the boy’s rooms. If you weren’t so busy building and fixing everything on that ark, maybe you would have time to take care of things at home.”

Even if she shared her concerns, even if she was the talk of the town - the Bible lets us know only one thing. When it was time to enter the boat, Noah’s wife was right there beside him. As insults were being hurled at her and her family, she kept moving forward. When her other family and closest friends turned their backs, Noah’s wife pressed on. She didn’t allow the naysayers or doubt-slingers to deter her from the commitment she made some 100+ years prior - for better or for worse. Chances are - Noah’s wife had no idea that one day her story would be told to the world.

What’s your story? Even if you cannot see it, is it possible that God is encouraging someone else through your struggle? It’s Day 3 in this 28-day journey. We encourage you to give God time to write your story and ask Him to provide you with the encouragement you need to press forward. If you feel that times are great, keep pushing forward. If you feel that times are on the fringe, keep pressing forward. Even if you sense that times are nearing an end - press on, friend! Your story is being written on the annals of time, and even heaven takes notice. To that end, keep moving forward!

Thought Questions

  • Why do you think Noah and his wife’s story was included in the Bible?
  • Have you ever experienced a move of faith that left you feeling alone? How did you respond?
  • Is God calling you (or your spouse) to do something, and you’re afraid or hesitant? What can you do to strengthen your faith?

Life Lessons

  • First, Adam and Eve. Now, Noah and his wife. The narrative is consistent. In good times and not-so-good times, stay together!
  • The thought of pressing through difficulty may not be so appealing if you are experiencing challenges. But be encouraged; God has the power to take the same challenge that you face and turn it around to save you, your marriage, and your family. Who knows, He may be writing a story to be shared for years to come.
